The whole concern of doctrine and its teaching must be directed to the love that never ends.  Whether something is proposed for belief, for hope or for action, the love of our Lord mush always be made accessible, so that anyone can see that all the works of perfect Christian virtue spring from love and have no other objective than to arrive at love.  Thoughts on Preparing for Mass,
on receiving Holy Communion...

• When arriving in church try to maintain a spirit of prayerful silence, spending some
  time reading the Scripture lessons of the day asking the Holy Spirit to open you heart more to
  Christ's Holy Word. If you wish to visit with fellow parishioners for an extended period of
  time, please go into an entrance area so that others might pray.

• When corning to Mass it is still the practice of the Church to refrain from eating solid food
  for one hour prior to Holy Communion. That also means that chewing gum and candy
  should not be used for one hour before corning to church. Taking a cough drop to suppress a
  fit of coughing is OK. Taking medications does not break a fast. Chewing gum is always
  inappropriate in church.

• Dress in a respectful and modest way for worship. What is appropriate for the gym or the
  pool or beach party is not usually appropriate in church.

• When approaching the Altar, as the person in front of you receives the Eucharist, pause to
  make a conscious bow of the head as a sign of reverence to the Lord who comes to you in the
  Blessed Sacrament.

• When receiving Holy Communion in the hand: lift your hands high enough, mid-chest
  level, so that the person offering Communion knows this is what you wish to do. Also, please
  remove any tissues, car keys or prayer beads from your hands so that the Blessed Sacrament
  may more easily be placed there. Once you receive the host, it should be consumed
  immediately at the altar. You should not walk back down the aisle with the host in your
  hand.

• Since Christ Our Savior comes to make us one family in the Eucharist, try to avoid
  leaving mass early, without a good reason. Make every effort to stay until the final
  hymn is completed in order for the priest, ministers and altar servers to process out, i.e. do
  not block their way in the aisle.

• Parking is a challenge in our church parking lot. However, the challenge is no excuse for
  parking in no parking areas or blocking in other cars. The back lot often has more room for
  cars.

Christian initiation is accomplished by means of the sacraments which establish the foundations of Christian life. The faithful born anew by Baptism are strengthened by Confirmation and are then nourished by the Eucharist.

THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM

252. What names are given to the first sacrament of initiation?

This sacrament is primarily called Baptism because of the central rite with which it is celebrated. To baptize means to “immerse” in water. The one who is baptized is immersed into the death of Christ and rises with him as a “new creature” (2 Corinthians 5:17). This sacrament is also called the “bath of regeneration and renewal in the Holy Spirit” (Titus 3:5); and it is called “enlightenment” because the baptized becomes “a son of light” (Ephesians 5:8).
